European Parliament to vote on a proposal for technology sovereignty in July

The European Parliament will vote in July on a technical sovereignty proposal submitted by the Commission on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), led by pro-Bitcoin MP Sarah Knafo. The non-binding report, adopted by ITRE on June 3, calls for the formulation of European digital ecosystem policies, pointing out that Europe lags behind the United States and China in strategic areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and communications infrastructure. The proposal recommends eliminating barriers to private investment innovation, promoting energy-efficient computing and blockchain infrastructure, and ensuring digital financial privacy. Previously, Knafo had publicly opposed the ECB's digital euro plan and called for the establishment of a strategic reserve of Bitcoin.
